Model Answer

(P) One way my case study texts use imaginative techniques, could be the use of
Star Power.

(Ex) For example, in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there is the inclusion of Harrison Ford, constructed across various platforms as the Richard Dyer “Good Joe” and “Tough Guy” archetypes.

(Ev) This is important because in a fictional world where the binary opposites of ‘good vs evil’ are so important, the brand values of Harrison Ford (charismatic, strong and courageous, seen in the limited edition EMPIRE Film front covers) suggest to audiences that he would play the Proppian Hero. This also brings in personal identity for existing fandoms by generating connotations of nostalgia, and bridging the gap between the original series and the new film. This is shown in his status as a ‘legendary’ character in Star Wars Battlefront, the console video game.

(Ex) Another example could be the use of Jennifer Lawrence in THG: Mockingjay 2.
(Ev) This is important because _______

(P) One way my case study texts use imaginative techniques, could be the use of star power. (Ex) For example, in American Horror Story, there is the inclusion of Lady Gaga, constructed across various platforms as the Richard Dyer “Independant Woman” archetype. (Ev) This is important because in the narrative, the brand values of Lady Gaga (intimidating, rebellious, strong, outspoken and confident, seen on the front cover of Entertainment Weekly) could suggest to new audiences that she plays a countertypical strong female lead. This could create personal identity for female audiences disillusioned with traditional female characters who are stereotypically portrayed as weak, passive, Proppian ‘princesses’. These brand values are reinforced in Lady Gaga’s social media, and appearances on chat shows, where she exhibits this outspoken, strong attitude.
